CD

Wayne Jackson, Sweet Medicine

cd After thirty years of making number one records for everyone else in the world, I decided to go into the studio and make my first solo album. My goal was simple - have fun! Recorded in the dining room/studio of a funky, old Victorian house owned by engineer and co-producer, Bob Kruzen, we stirred up a bit of blues, a dash of jazz, a pinch of R&B to create a simmering stew of Sweet Medicine.

The instrumental album includes six spontaneous originals and six of my all time favorites. I was glad to share space on my CD with five other musicians I consider to be creative geniuses: Johnny "The Funk Master" Neal on keyboards, Mark Harris on upright bass, Warren White on drums, Tim Hinkley on keyboards, and Clinton Gregory on fiddle.

Songs featured:
Sweet Medicine
Green Onions
St. Louis Blues
Finding Amy (Am-E)
The Other Side of Blue
Mouse Town Fireworks
St. James Infirmary
Apache Dance
Watermelon Man
The Bottom Line
Blue Monk
September Moon

Patch
(click on patch to view larger)

patch The first piece of memorabilia for sale is an exact duplication of the jacket patch presented to all participating band members at the now infamous Alpine Valley concert where rock legend Stevie Ray Vaugh's life was tragically taken in a helicopter crash. The Eric Clapton show featured Stevie Ray and Double Trouble along with The Robert Cray Band featuring The Memphis Horns with whom I was performing.

Stevie Ray used The Mar-Keys' original recording of "Last Night" to come out on stage. That particular night, just after I came off stage and as he was heading on, I had the opportunity to thank him. He told me how important that song was to him. (This will be the subject of an upcoming road story.)

It is a special piece of memorabilia marking a major event in music history.

ART: Watercolor Print

"The Summer of '51" - by Wayne Jackson (click on image to enlarge view)

Limited edition print of watercolor, 11x17
appropriate for framing

When I'm not in the studio or out on the road, one of my favorite hobbies is painting. This year one of my illustrations has been popular with everyone. It's called "The Summer of '51." It's simply a feeling of mine on how things used to be when I was a kid growing up in Arkansas. It's been so well liked that I decided to offer a representation of it to you.
